Smarter testing and never waste time again.

Smarter testing and never waste time again.

The #1 programmer excuse for legitimately slacking off used to be “My code’s compiling”.

These days it’s more likely “I’m running the tests”. We have time for a coffee (or two or three). That’s what we turn into code after all.

We waste not only a lot of our time waiting until the very end of the build to see tests which we have just written failing, but also tons of resources making our CI servers sweat and having enormous queues of pending jobs. But what’s even more important - we switch contexts and thus we loose focus.

Maybe we can test smarter? Join us in this workshop and bring your laptop to learn about a new tool we are working on that you stay in the zone and never waste time again. We know which tests you want to run.

Alex Soto, from RedHat will conduct this workshop . He's a usual speaker at the BarcelonaJUG events, as long as speaker in other big conferences like Devoxx, JavaZone, JavaLand, JavaOne...

Don't forget to register in our meetup event page, seats are limited.

Mocks, Stubs, Fakes. What Else?

Hi devs !!!!
Here we are again, with a new event and in this case it's about Testing :)
-- This event will be done in January 2016 but we dont still have the concrete date.--

Through the use of build pipelines, Continuous Delivery will enable faster and more frequent build, test and deployment cycles of software.
To ensure that what you are delivering has the required quality: how do we build a continuous delivery pipeline in the real world and how do we correctly implement tests?

Our friend Alex Soto, from CloudBees, will be speaking about testing and the different techniques we can use ( mocking, stubbing, faking... ).
In this session we are going to focus only in the first stage of a CD pipeline, the commit stage. This first stage is really important since it must be executed fast and should provide quick feedback regarding any failure. Doing this well means faster application releases with higher quality.

Come to this session to learn how unit tests can help you on this stage, how and when to use mocks, stubs or fakes and a brief touch in mock 2.0. Also we are going to identify some problems that these techniques have and how we can fix it.
Finally we are going to see how Jenkins acts as the director of the whole process.
In this event we'll be using the facilities of Netcentric where we can have beers and a good networking time after the presentation ( office interior in Google maps ).

Enjoy this event and not forget to register in our meetup :)

The Arquillian Universe: A Tour Around the Astrophysics (11/12)

Ey JUGgers!

Yes, you guessed it,... we have planned another event! For the next week, specifically next thursday 11th at 7pm centered on Arquillian by Aslak Knutsen! And yes, this time you can attend where you prefer, because it will be streamed online via our Youtube channel!

As some of you may know, Arquillian is a revolutionary testing platform for Java and the JVM that enables developers to easily create and execute integration and functional tests for Java middleware, from Java EE and beyond. One of Arquillian's strong points is its extensibility. Arquillian was built with the ability to change its default behavior via its powerful extension model as well as to grow past its original programming to take on the challenges of tomorrow. This presentation guides you through the Arquillian extensions by demonstrating how specific extensions solve common problematic testing scenarios faced by enterprise developers. You will get a overview of what is available and possible today as well as what is brewing in the community.

This talk will be driven by Aslak Knutsen. Aslak is the Arquillian project lead and currently works as a Senior Software Engineer at JBoss, by Red Hat where he is working on projects such as Arquillian, ShrinkWrap, Weld and Seam 3. Also he is one of the founders of the JBoss Testing initiative and a speaker at major industry conferences including JavaOne, Devoxx, Jazoon, JFokus, Geecon, JUDCon and JBoss World.

Nothing more from our side, mark this event in your agendas and see you next thursday 11th online! Ah! Do not forget to join us on our IRC channel (#BarcelonaJUG) at Freenode we will be waiting for all of you to share opinions and ask your questions.

Coding Dojo, kata de iniciación (17/10)

Hola JUGers!

Resumen "Mocks will be assimilated"

Hola juggers !!!

  • Real tests increase certainty
  • Real tests build confidence
  • Real tests increase robustness
  • Mock is an option, not a rule
  • Don’t let mocks ruin yourquality
  • Long Live and Prosper to tests

Manage Lifecycle of Container
Create/Deploy MicroDeployments
Enriching Test Classes
Run Tests inside/against Container
IDE Friendly

Resistance is Futile, Mocks Will Be Assimilated [Workshop] (25/04)

Hi community!

How were the holidays? We hope you have a nice time and enjoy it.

So, here we are, ready for our next event, this friday 25th and this time we will be focused in testing and mock objects and playing with some great tools about these topics driven by Alex Soto.

Let's think a little about testing. Everybody is mocking in unit test. To test what? Your code will be run within a Java EE container. Let's start writing fast real tests.

Are you confident enough to push your application to production without fear? Will it run correctly with all components? Keep the fail whale at bay? Confidence comes from writing real tests.
In this workshop we are going to see how some tools like Arquillian, Byteman, NoSQLUnit or Moco and other programs, may help us writing real tests in situations where you typically would use mocks.

Come to this workshop and learn how to write faster and more effectively tests!

Here is the script of the event:

- Some Theory
  • What are and what happens with mocks?
  • Are there alternatives?
  • Mocks, stubs and fakes
  • Explanation of typical scenarios where mocks are used: Business Layer, Data Layer, External Services Layer, UI Layer
- Engage!!!
  • Writing real tests in Business Layer with Arquillian
  • Writing real tests for External Services Layer.
  • Writing real tests for Ajax-Enabled UI applications under different browsers (including Mobile ones)
  • The Cloud
- Conclusions

These are the requirements for this workshop:
As we have mentioned, this workshop will be driven by Alex Soto. Alex is a software engineer specialized in enterprise technologies, test automation and continuous delivery based on the Java platform. He has over a decade of experience in the Java world, yet continually renews his skill set by learning new aptitudes and technologies every day. Moreover he is involved in the open source world in projects like NoSQLUnit, Asciidoctor or Arquillian. He is an international speaker, presenting his talks at software conferences like Devoxx, LinuxTag, Codemotion, Guatemala JavaDays, JavaLand or GeeCon.

That's all guys, just remember to reserve your seat at MeetUp and come this friday 25th at 7pm at our usual place, La Fontana. Ah! Do not worry about the language, this workshop won't be in english ;-)

See you this friday!

¡podemos aplicarlo a proyectos "Java 100%"!
